The Arc Maryland Honors Four Members of The Arc Baltimore Community

Awards Recognize Service to People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Four members of The Arc Baltimore community were recently honored by The Arc Maryland at its statewide convention:

  • Matt Yancisin, CFO at Alterwood Heath, was recognized as Chapter Volunteer of the Year for his nearly 20 years of service to The Arc Baltimore. After serving on The Arc’s Finance, Development & Marketing, and Board Governance Committees, Yancisin was named Treasurer, then Vice President and President of The Arc Baltimore Board. He was awarded the Harry R. Shriver President’s Cup for exemplary service to The Arc and named Director Emeritus, before returning to the Board again to help The Arc navigate the Covid-19 crisis.
  • Levy Restaurants was honored as Employer of the Year for its work in creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities after taking over concessions at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Demonstrating a strong commitment to fostering workplace inclusion, Levy has hired more than a dozen people supported by The Arc Baltimore while simultaneously making a generous donation to the organization’s Annual Golf Tournament.
  • State Senator Cory McCray was recognized as a Legislator of the Year for his work in shaping Maryland’s $60 billion budget and particularly the $2.7 billion for intellectual and developmental disabilities services. Senator McCray also played a pivotal role in the previous legislative session by collaborating with community partners to restore most of the unprecedented budget cuts that would have decimated disability services.
  • Terri Spurrier, Director of Career Catalyst and Community Engagement at The Arc Baltimore, was the recipient of a Legacy Award for her 50 years of service. Throughout her career, she has played a pivotal role in supporting numerous adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in securing employment, discovering joy in their interests and hobbies while forming meaningful relationships.

“What an incredible honor it was to celebrate these truly extraordinary people in our community,” says Kathleen McNally Durkin, The Arc Baltimore’s Chief Executive Officer. “A heartfelt congratulations to each of them and thank you to The Arc Maryland for providing such an excellent opportunity to recognize these inspiring people and partners.”

Since 1949, The Arc Baltimore has been supporting people with developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of belonging, purpose, and meaningful relationships. With more than 800 full- and part-time employees, The Arc Baltimore provides employment training and support, day and residential services, family support and education, treatment foster care, assistive technology services, respite care, and public policy advocacy.
