BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — As unemployment claims continue to climb across Maryland as a result of coronavirus shutdowns, Baltimore County and its new partners — Keany Produce and Gourmet, Maryland Food Bank and others — are working to fight food insecurity and ensure residents still have access to necessities.

The county said Friday it will expand its grocery distribution by sending boxes of groceries to 11 sites around the county starting Saturday.

Distributed groceries will include fresh produce from Keany Produce & Gourmet, bread from H&S Bakery and other items from the Maryland food bank.

“As we continue to respond to this rapidly evolving situation, we are doing whatever we can to ensure residents can access fundamental necessities—especially food,” Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski said in a statement. “We are so thankful for the partnership of Keany Produce, H&S Bakery, the Maryland Food Bank, and all our partners to help provide food security for Baltimore County families during this challenging time.”

The county said last week the Maryland Food Bank provided boxes of groceries and Keany Produce donated 360 boxes of produce the weekend of March 21 to distribute to nine sites. Starting Saturday, Baltimore County is set to purchase 1,100 boxes to distribute to food insecure residents.
