Announcement Coming On Franchot's Future

State Comptroller is rumored to be mulling over possible run for Governor in 2014.

State Comptroller Peter Franchot could make an announcement as soon as today regarding his political future.

Franchot, a Democrat in his second term as the state's chief tax collector, has long been rumored as a possible candidate for governor in 2014.

In September, Franchot spoke of a possible run during an appearance at Goucher College but was non-committal.

"Despite everybody kind of pulling at my sleeve saying 'would you take that fiscal message and run.' it's something I'm going to be very cautious about. I'm just speaking frankly. I've got a lot on my plate, frankly. I need the job like a hole in the head.

"But times are tough and my party has not responded in an objective way to the fiscal danger that our state and the country are in...So, chances are I'll probably be dragged into it."

Last month, Maryland Juice, reported that Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown's camp commissioned a poll that showed Franchot and others trailing Brown in a potential matchup for governor.
