CFG Moves Out of Towson

The Baltimore bank purchased AmericasBank in 2009.

A historic Towson bank building is now vacant as a Baltimore bank opted to move its branch to Lutherville.

CFG Community Bank officially opened its new Lutherville location Monday at 10 W. Ridgely Road.

“CFG Community Bank’s arrival in Lutherville solidifies the area’s economic growth and overall vitality,” Dan McKew, president of CFG Community Bank, said in a press release issued last week. “Our new location is convenient for not only citizens but also the area’s growing businesses, and will help CFG Community Bank remain a financially sound, highly profitable bank dedicated to supporting the financial wellness of our community.”

CFG is the 16th largest bank by market share in the Baltimore-Towson area, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., with $456.6 million in deposits as of last June. The bank is a subsidiary of Baltimore County-based Capital Funding Bancorp.

The Towson branch, formerly known as Towson Community Bank, was taken over by CFG in 2009 when CFG bought AmericasBank.

Its two-story building at 500 York Road was originally built as Baltimore County Bank in 1925. That bank failed during the Great Depression.

The building was added to the county landmarks list in 2006, according to a Towson Times report at the time. In 1997, The Baltimore Sun wrote about the location's history.

Incidentally, CFG's new Lutherville location is in the same shopping center as the Timonium locations of two Towson staples: Sushi Hana and .
