DPW Unveiling 'Bike Beltway' Proposal

The Baltimore County Department of Public Works will soon reveal a proposed route, for Towson.

A public meeting for the unveiling is scheduled for 7 p.m., Dec. 17 in room 118 of the Historic Court House in Towson, according to a news release.

The route will run through central Towson and include bike access to Towson University, Goucher College, Towson Town Center and the government center, the release states.

The project was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation to cover signage and repainting costs for the path in January. County capital funds will provide $20,000 for the effort.

Additional funds from the Department of Public Works would go toward resurfacing the roads along the route.

The route was designed through a collaboration between the Department of Public Works and the 5th District Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee, which was created by Councilman David Marks in June 2011.

Extensions to the route have been proposed, but no funding is yet available for these.
