Fatal Crash Prompts Charges Against Fleeing, Unlicensed Driver: Police

A woman, 74, died in a Baltimore County crash. Police said the other driver, an unlicensed 16-year-old, fled the scene and faces charges.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — Police said a woman, 74, died in a crash with an unlicensed driver recently in Baltimore County.

Officers identified the victim as Patricia Cook.

Authorities said charges are pending against the other driver, an undisclosed 16-year-old who ran away from the scene but later returned with a relative.

The two-vehicle collision happened Saturday around 11:20 a.m. in Owings Mills at New Town Boulevard and Middle Mill Drive, police said.

Medics found Cook trapped inside the 2019 Honda Fit that she was driving, a press release said.

Detectives said the other driver was heading north on New Town Boulevard in a Jeep at a potentially high rate of speed.

The release said the Jeep struck the Honda Fit as the operator was making a left turn from Middle Mill Drive onto New Town Boulevard.

Cook was pronounced dead on the scene, the Baltimore County Police Department said.

Officers are still investigating.

Authorities did not immediately answer Patch's questions on what charges are pending against the Jeep driver and whether they will be charged as an adult.
