Flash Flood Watch For Baltimore County Issued

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A flash flood watch is in effect from 2 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 30. It applies to central Maryland, including Baltimore County.

Thunderstorms could soak the region with a few inches of rain in a short period of time Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service, which issued the watch.

This could lead to flash flooding, which is a rapid rise in water level that can be life-threatening.

Small streams and creeks and urban and poor drainage areas could experience flash flooding, according to the watch.

These areas are included in the flash flood watch from 2 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 30:

• Baltimore County
• Anne Arundel County
• Baltimore City
• Carroll County
• Cecil County
• Frederick County
• Harford County
• Howard County
• Montgomery County
• Prince George's County

The District of Columbia is also under the watch.

Another flash flood watch for the region takes effect at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, and lasts until 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, as the remnants of Ida bring prolonged periods of heavy rain.

Forecasters are calling for about 2 to 4 inches of rain, with up to 6 inches possible between Wednesday and Thursday, according to the watch. In addition to small streams and urban areas, flooding may also impact rivers.

Here's the forecast for Baltimore County from the National Weather Service:

Monday afternoon: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. Some storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89 and low of 71 degrees. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a high near 83 and low around 69. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph.

Wednesday: High near 74 and low of 64 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent, increasing as the day continues. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Thursday: Showers likely, mainly before 9 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 75 and low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The change of nighttime showers before 9 p.m. is 30 percent.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 76 and low around 59.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 78 and a low around 61.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 82.
