Greater Towson Committee Head to Resign

The executive director of a Towson development group announced her resignation Tuesday.

Cynthia Bledsoe, who has led the Greater Towson Committee for seven years, will leave the organization on June 30.

"My heart will always be in Towson," Bledsoe said in a statement. "It has been a fulfilling pleasure to serve alongside such dedicated leaders in business, community and government. I remain a champion of this place and its people."

The GTC, founded in 1979, includes developers, business owners and large Towson institutions like Towson University and Greater Baltimore Medical Center. During Bledsoe's tenure, the GTC participated in Towson's Urban Design Assistance Team and Walkable Towson projects.

Bledsoe will move on to be an executive producer and publicist for a new entertainment subsidiary of Thomas Herding Technique. Bledsoe will still live in the Towson area.

“While we are saddened Cindy will no longer be leading our continuing efforts to revitalize Towson, we thank her for seven years of dedicated service and wish her well in this exciting new chapter in her professional life," said Charles J. Fleury, GTC's president and vice president of commercial lending for Essex Bank, said in a statement.

Fleury said in the statement that the group expects to have Bledsoe's successor named before she departs.

"I'm going to miss her terribly," said County Councilman David Marks, who worked with Bledsoe on urban design legislation and other initiatives. "I think she really understood a lot of the urban planning principles which are going to revitalize Towson."
