La Cakerie Opening Saturday in Downtown Towson

La Cakerie, the first solo venture of Food Network's Cupcake Wars winner Jason Hisley, is opening at 49 W. Chesapeake Ave. on Saturday.

"I'm really excited for it," said Hisley, a Parkville resident. "Towson is screaming for a bakery right now."

In addition to expected items such as cupcakes, artisan breads and cookies, the bakery menu will also feature savory selections including gourmet pretzels, quiches and breakfast sandwiches. La Cakerie will also provide Zeke's Coffee and vegan and gluten-free cupcakes through a partnership with Sweet 27, a North Baltimore bakery.

Hisley, a pastry chef who has trained in bakeries across Europe, will also offer custom creations for customers.

As part of the opening celebration, which starts at 11 a.m., Hisley will offer special promotions and "secret, fun stuff."

Menu items will be baked fresh on-site daily. Some prep work such as making dough will be done at a commercial bakery in Baltimore, which Hisley said will enable him to open more La Cakerie locations. He is currently considering a store in Harford County. 

"Towson is a springboard," he said.

La Cakerie, which has limited seating available, will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The pastry chef is also looking into running a food truck, which would sell sweets during the day and savory items during the evening hours.

Hisley, who claimed a second place win on Food Network's Sweet Genius, said he has "feelers" out to return to television.

"I'm hoping I'll be back up there soon," he said.
