Funeral Fundraiser Supporting BCPS Football Player Who Died After Medical Emergency

The Baltimore County football player who died in a medical emergency was identified. A funeral fundraiser is underway for the 16-year-old.

REISTERSTOWN, MD — The Baltimore County student-athlete who died last week after a medical emergency was a football player who collapsed at practice, a report said. A fundraiser has already collected thousands for his funeral.

The Baltimore Sun reported Friday that the victim was Leslie Noble. The 16-year-old junior was a guard on Franklin High School's varsity football team in Reisterstown, The Sun said.

The Sun also confirmed the legitimacy of this fundraiser for Noble's funeral.

"Leslie was known for his outgoing personality and his talents on and off the football field," family friend Tekeiska Perry wrote on the fundraiser page. "His infectious laughter, his unwavering love for his family and friends and his bright future ahead of him has been cut short. He loved his mother and his siblings unconditionally."

The GoFundMe had collected $19,399 by Monday at 11 a.m. The 405 donors helped the family exceed its original goal of $17,000.

"The financial burden of laying Leslie to rest is heavy, and the emotional toll is unimaginable," Perry said. "The family is humbly asking for your support during this chapter in their lives. Your donation will help them give Leslie the dignified farewell he deserves."

The Baltimore County Fire Department said it was called to Franklin High on Wednesday at 9:18 a.m.

Crews said they found the child experiencing a medical emergency on the football field with life-saving efforts already underway.

Medics said they took the student-athlete to a hospital in critical condition.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, the Baltimore County Police Department said.

Franklin High Principal Kieran O'Connell felt "profound sadness" after the death. O'Connell offered counseling resources to anybody needing support.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the student's family and loved ones," O'Connell said in a message posted on the Franklin High Athletic Boosters' Facebook page. "We will share more information as soon as we are permitted to do so."

Franklin High canceled all practices on Wednesday afternoon. Athletic activities resumed Thursday.

Baltimore County Public Schools has not released any further details or comments.
