"My time here at WJZ has been absolutely phenomenal," Carter said. "I've had a chance to cover some of the major stories."

Carter said he's covered the inaugurations of presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. He's also reported on three pope visits.

The Morehead State University graduate has interviewed Gov. Wes Moore and retiring U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, WJZ said.

WJZ added that Carter has covered news events on four continents, interviewed several U.S. presidents and anchored newscasts from the Vatican City, the White House, the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and Cuba.

Carter called it a "wonderful ride" and said there's never been a dull moment.

"It's always exciting, and it's always intriguing too because Baltimore is a complex place that has absolutely wonderful people," Carter said. "I could not have found a better place to work and to live."
