Minor Road Closure Required for BGE Project, Officials Say

In a brief meeting at the Country Club of Maryland, officials from the utility said road closures today were not their doing.

East Towson residents can expect to see occasional lane closures and some overnight detours as Baltimore Gas and Electric crews work to replace 25 power poles and a manhole.

BGE representatives spoke to about a dozen residents at a town hall meeting early Monday evening at the Country Club of Maryland organized by County Councilman David Marks.

The work, which will start mid-May and could last through October, will involve lines along Hillen Road from the Towson power substation at Railroad and Fairmount avenues to the intersection of Hillen Road and Far Hills Drive, near the end of West Burke Avenue.

Officials warned of lane closures on Hillen Road during the construction, with flagmen posted as necessary. Underground work on utilities leading from a pumping station off Far Hills Drive will require overnight road closures, with detours in place. The work may also require pre-scheduled outages.

"Where we do that, we will plan ahead of time," said Karen McKinney, a project manager for BGE.

Twenty-five power poles will be replaced as part of the work.

Crews are also nearby working on renovations to the Towson Reservoir, and the construction at . Residents, in raising traffic concerns, said at the meeting that there was a road closure there on Monday, though BGE officials said that was unrelated to work on the new utilities.
