PIKESVILLE, MD — Officials cut the ribbon Wednesday on the new Bedford Elementary School in Pikesville.
Leaders lauded the $57.4 million replacement building as an upgrade from its predecessor. The new school is more than twice the size of the previous building, which was constructed in 1962.
"This new, sustainable facility recognizes and supports the potential in every student with double the amount of seats," Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski said on X, formerly known as Twitter. "I thank Principal Kristen Loscomb, [Baltimore County Public Schools] Superintendent [Dr. Myriam Rogers], Board of Education Chairwoman Tiara Booker-Dwyer, and the teachers and staff at Bedford for delivering this new, well-deserved school for our students."

The 689-seat school, located at 7320 Campfield Road, has 33 classrooms for preschool through Grade 5.
"Providing more than 102,000 square feet of state-of-the-art learning space, the new Bedford Elementary, which opened to students in August, will meet the educational needs of the fast-growing communities of northwest Baltimore County for generations to come," BCPS said in a press release. "The school’s design also incorporates LEED silver standards for environmental sustainability and includes supporting infrastructure such as athletic facilities, parking, and other amenities."
