Planning Kicks Off for Towson Fourth of July Parade

Kids on bikes, waving politicians, marching bands—yup, the Towson Fourth of July Parade is just around the corner.

The parade committee met this week to start its big push in planning the annual summer tradition.

"We talked about hospitality, costume characters," said Maryann Albaugh, committee chair. "Right now, we're focusing on getting the bands and units together."

Performers and vendors can sign up for consideration through the parade's web site.

One top priority is raising the requisite $30,000 to fund the celebration. Some of the money will go towards financing performers, insurance and equipment.

"We're sending out fundraising letters [to those who have donated previously]," said Albaugh, who noted that the parade is not funded through government revenue sources. "We always need donations."

Donations can also be made through the website.

The committee is also looking for volunteers, Albaugh said.

As is custom, one Towson community will be featured to lead the parade. This year, Anneslie claims the honor.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. July 4.
