Reisterstown Man Arrested in State Trooper Hit-And-Run

Matthew L. Wood, 30, of the 200 block of Highmeadow Road turned himself in through an attorney at the Golden Ring Barrack in Essex at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to Maryland State Police.

State police say that at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Wood struck Trooper First Class Jason M. James, 30, with his car while James was conducting a traffic stop north of the Ruxton Road exit on northbound Interstate 83. James was wearing a reflective vest, and all of the lights on his vehicle were on.

The car that struck the trooper left the accident scene.

James was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the scene, police found the passenger side mirror belonging to a 1999 Buick LeSabre, similar to one registered to Wood, which is also missing its passenger side mirror.

Wood is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily injury, failure of driver in accident to render aid to injured person, failure of driver in bodily injury accident to provide identification, negligent driving, failure to move over or slow down for a stopped emergency vehicle, and failure to obey a traffic control device. He is currently being held at the in Towson in lieu of $275,000 bail.
