Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Baltimore Metro Area

BREAKING: A storm with 60 mph winds has been reported in the Baltimore area, according to the National Weather Service.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Baltimore City and Baltimore County until 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Authorities issued the warning due to winds up to 60 mph wind and penny-sized hail.

At 6:30 p.m., storms were on a line from Towson to Arbutus and were moving east at 30 mph, according to the warning.

These areas may be impacted, officials say: Baltimore, Pikesville, Middle River, Elkridge, North Point State Park, Sparrows Point, Back River, Millers Island, Dundalk, Towson, Catonsville, Essex, Woodlawn, Parkville, Carney, Perry Hall, Lochearn, Pasadena, Arbutus and Rosedale.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, winds may cause trees and large branches to fall, injuring people outside as well as damaging homes and vehicles. Roads could become blocked by fallen trees, and power outages are possible. People should go inside to the lowest floor and an interior room to stay safe.
