Sharon Love Files $30M Suit Against George Huguely

Huguely was convicted in February in the 2010 killing of ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love.

The mother of slain Cockeysville native Yeardley Love is suing her daughter's convicted killer for $30 million.

The Daily Progress reports that Sharon Love's wrongful death suit against George Huguely was filed Thursday in Charlottesville (VA) Circuit Court.

In February, of second-degree murder and grand larceny in connection with Love's death. The jury recommended that Huguely —a sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 20.

According to court documents cited by The Daily Progress, Sharon Love's attorneys allege that Huguely “acted with such indifference to Love that his conduct constituted an utter disregard of caution amounting to a complete neglect of safety for Love.”

On May 2, 2010, Huguely beat Love and left her for dead in her Charlottesville apartment, according to prosecutors. Witnesses in the two-week trial  and history of violence.

Huguely, of Chevy Chase, and Love were both lacrosse players at the University of Virginia.

The suit seeks $29,450,000 in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages plus attorney fees. The Progress reports that the Love family is seeking a jury trial.
