Ron Smith To Stop Cancer Treatments

WBAL radio host: "The idea of some miracle with stage 4 cancer—Well, there isn't going to be any miracle."

Long-time talk radio show host Ron Smith announced Thursday morning that he is discontinuing treatment for his stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

"After consultations it was determined it was a futile way to go," Smith said.

Simultaneously, Smith announced on the Baltimore Sun website that he is discontinuing his column which appears in the paper and online.

The talk show host had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with cancer about a month ago. He announced the diagnosis on the air last month.

"The idea of some miracle with a stage 4 pancreatic cancer—well there isn't going to be any miracle," Smith said, adding that he's accepted the next stage of his treatment which he said will ultimately result in home hospice care.

"I will be on the air as I can and as long as I can and I guess that about covers it," Smith said before going to commercial.
