TOWSON, MD — The Starbucks off Loch Raven Boulevard at Joppa Road has shuttered.

It had closed temporarily in the fall.

"When I spoke to Starbucks officials last month, they gave one reason for closing the company's Loch Raven location: crime at nearby businesses," Councilman David Marks, who represents the area, said in a statement. "For too long, residents have dealt with prostitution, homicides, and other issues in the Loch Raven Boulevard corridor."

A Starbucks representative told the Baltimore Fishbowl that "a number of factors" go into decisions to close locations based on the company's portfolio. Employees were reportedly given opportunities to work at neighboring Starbucks stores.

Before it was a Starbucks, the site at the corner of Joppa Road and Loch Raven Boulevard housed the Bel-Loc Diner. It closed in 2017 after being in operation for 53 years.
