Tale of the Tape on Olympian Park
Workers prepare to install sculpture as park's new centerpiece
Michael Phelps has more to hang on his neck than his gold medals these days: caution tape.
At Towson's Olympian Park, a pedestal bearing the Olympic swimmer's plaque is tied up in yellow tape, cordoning off part of the park as county maintenance workers get ready for a new sculpture to be installed.
Don Mohler, a county spokesman, said a sculpture was always in mind as the centerpiece for the park, which was dedicated in July.

"When it was originally designed, we knew there was a potential for a sculpture there, but at that time, there was not a donor," he said.
That donor stepped forward, but Mohler was not ready to disclose the donor's identity or the price tag on the sculpture.

"Coming soon," he said.
Olympian Park was opened on a wedge of land between York Road and West Joppa Road. The park has plaques and pedestals commemorating six Baltimore County natives who competed in the Olympic Games.
According to Mohler, the sculpture should be installed around the third week of October.
