Three 2012 Homicides Remain Unsolved

The homicide detectives in the Baltimore County Police Department continue to solve more homicides than the national average but three cases in 2012 remain unsolved.

But suspects remain elusive in three cases:

• Janell Earlita Balogun, 33, of the 2700 block of Rittenhouse Avenue in Baltimore. Balogun's body was found in a wooded area off Frederick Road near Oella on June 10. There were no obvious signs of trauma but her death was ruled a homicide.
• Keyon Donte Henry, 19. Henry was found shot June 29 in the 2700 block of Claybrooke Drive in Woodlawn, the same block he lived in. He later died at Shock Trauma. Police said at the time that Henry and a friend were standing on that street when a man approached them, shot the victim and fled on foot. 
• Alsawab Sawab, 27. Sawab was found shot inside his apartment in the 7000 block of Lachlan Circle in Towson on Nov. 25. Police have no suspects in the case but said at the time there were no signs of forced entry and that they believed the attack was not random.

The department announced Wednesday that it solved 86.9 percent of the 23 cases in 2012—just slightly lower than its five year average of 89.8 percent.

The clearance rate for homicides nationwide in 2011 was 64.8 percent, according to statistics compiled by the FBI.
