Towson Crime: Man Chases Burglar with Sword

Loch Raven

Glen Keith Boulevard, 1700 block. 10 p.m. Feb. 1. Someone entered a home by breaking glass in the rear door, but was chased out by a resident carrying a sword.

East Joppa Road, 1600 block. 9 p.m. Feb. 1. Someone entered Beav's Smoke House and produced a box cutter. He took $740 in $20 bills and ran toward Loch Raven Boulevard. Police later arrested Jon Eric Carlson, 52, of the 1600 block of Ridgely Court in Crofton, on robbery, theft and assault charges. He is currently being held at the on $100,000 bail.

East Joppa Road, 1700 block. 2 a.m. Feb. 1. Two men had an altercation with two other men. One stabbed another in the abdomen. The victim was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.

Towson Place

Putty Hill Avenue, 1200 block. 4:39 p.m. Jan. 31. Outside , a police officer tried to arrest someone for shoplifting. The alleged shoplifter dragged the officer along with her car. A parked car was damaged in the process. The officer and a Target employee were bit while trying to remove her keys from the ignition. Police arrested Megan Kathleen Keplinger, 34, of the unit block of Misty Wood Court in Timonium. Police said she was charged with first-degree assault, drug possession, theft, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment. She is being held in the Baltimore County Detention Center on $100,000 bail. The Target merchandise, valued at $1,524.13, was recovered.

Greenbrier

Acorn Circle, unit block. 2:02 p.m. Feb. 2. A resident came home to see her estranged husband going through papers and trying to take property, including a cell phone, pliers, scissors, a Bluetooth headset and a charger, police said. She recovered the phone, and the man fled. Police later arrested Essam Ahmad Fawzy, 45, of the 1600 block of Ruxton Road. He was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree assault and released Feb. 3 on $50,000 bail.

Pinehurst

Gaywood Road, 200 block. Between 10 p.m. Feb. 3 and 7:30 a.m. Feb. 4. A red 2000 Dodge Durango, Maryland tag 351M020, valued at $6,000, was stolen by unknown means. A bag of women's clothing was found next to the vehicle's last known location.

Campus Hills

Breezewick Circle, 900 block. 7 p.m. Feb. 3. Residents heard a loud bang, similar to a transformer blowing. The homeowner's son went outside an hour later and noticed that the mailbox had been damaged and a green bottle inside it was emitting a strange odor. The bomb squad responded, police said.

Riderwood

Roldrew Avenue, 7900 block. 2:15 p.m. Feb. 4. Someone forced open the front door of a residence. The resident, who was on the second floor of the house, heard movement, saw the burglar and yelled. The burglar ran to a black Volkswagen Beetle and fled, police said.
