Towson Districts Shaken Up in State Redistricting

Towson's state legislative districts are headed for big changes depending on the outcome of the governor's redistricting plan, unveiled last week.

Under the current districts, basically the entire Towson area is in the 42nd district, currently represented by Sen. and Dels. Susan Aumann, Bill Frank and . Brochin and Lafferty are Democrats; Aumann and Frank are Republicans.

The 42nd district has been split into 42A, which encompasses much of Towson, and 42B, which extends north roughly into the rest of the current 42nd district.

Meaning, in the House of Delegates, Lafferty, a Stoneleigh resident, would represent 42A. Frank, who lives in Lutherville, and Aumann, a Timonium resident, would represent the larger 42B.

Most of Ruxton, Riderwood, Bare Hills and points east would be moved to the 11th district, now represented by Sen. Bobby Zirkin and Delegates Dan Morhaim, Jon Cardin and Dana Stein, all Democrats. That idea who would also be affected.

Some of Towson, including much of Loch Raven, would move to the 8th district, represented by Sen. Kathy Klausmeier and Dels. Joseph C. Boteler III, Eric Bromwell and John Cluster. Cluster and Boteler are Republicans; Bromwell and Klausmeier are Democrats.

The governor's redistricting plan is just that, however—A plan. Legislative redistricting will be discussed at the Maryland General Assembly, which convenes on Jan. 11 in Annapolis.
