Towson University Hosts Bealefeld For School Safety, Gun Talk

Towson University is set to host a former Baltimore Police commissioner for a talk later this month.

Fred Bealefeld, the former commissioner of police for Baltimore City, will discuss school safety and gun legislation at a Mar. 26 installment of the Towson University Signature Forum Series, according to a news release from the university.

The event will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. March 26, 4-5:30 p.m. at West Village Commons on the Towson University campus. The Signature Forum series is free and open to all.

Hosted by former Maryland state schools superintendent Dr. Nancy Grasmick, the forum aims to create a timely dialogue around issues related to education, the release states.

Bealefeld, who has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement, will discuss "school safety and its implications in the wake of the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School."

Earlier this year, Baltimore County was rocked by a school shooting at Perry Hall High School.

Other topics on the agenda for the talk include proposed state and national gun legislation and the recommendations of the recent Johns Hopkins Summit on Reducing Gun Violence in America, the release states.
