2-Alarm Fire Temporarily Displaces 20 At Virginia Towers
The fire began in a trash compactor and smoke spread to the residential floors.

A fire that began in a trash compactor at Towson senior housing high-rise apartment building caused 20 people to evacuate ther apartments late Sunday night.
Fire officials responded to Virginia Towers, 500 Virginia Avenue, at approximately 11 p.m. Mar. 3, according to a news release from the Baltimore County Fire Department. When they arrived, they found a fire in a trash compactor.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze. Smoke from the fire caused about 20 residents to be temporarily evacuated from the building, according to the release.

A second alarm was called in to assist with evacuations. Around 1:15 a.m. Mar. 4 fire officials determined, using air-monitoring devices, that the residences were safe and allowed people to return to their homes, according to the statement.
About 30 fire units were called to the scene of the two-alarm fire. No one was injured and the incident remains under investigation.
