The azalea itself, represented by former Gardens Day chair Dorrie Wilfong, took the stand. State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger mounted the azalea's defense.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz mounted the prosecution, claiming that the knockout rose should be Towson's official flower and that the azalea isn't even a flower at all.
