A Family Affair Children's Center

We have a full preschool program serving children ages two through five years old. We use creative curriculum which is a theme based, teacher created curriculum. We have a music teacher who comes once a week and we take several field trips a year. Our 2’s and 3’s Program In our 2’s and 3’s room we focus on helping children master self-care tasks such as toilet-training and using cups and forks as well as building social skills. We also lay the foundation for future academic learning with the basics such as the alphabet, colors, and basic math skills such as patterns and counting. Our 4’s and 5’s Program Our 4’s and 5’s program focuses on Kindergarten readiness. We cover all developmental areas including literacy, math concepts, science, social skills, music, and art all couched within a fun and interactive theme such as “Animals” or “The Beach.” Learning activities related to each of those topics are done throughout the week. Before and After School Care We provide before and after school care for children who attend Pine Grove or Harford Hills Elementary. We are open when schools are closed. We do a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as: ○ Table games ○ Crafts ○ Legos ○ Outdoor play We also offer homework help, a morning and afternoon snack. Children are picked up and dropped off from the center by the BCPS bus system. Summer Camp We offer a school age summer camp for Kindergarten—5th graders. Call it the 21st century version of penpals. Students at have mastered the tools of digital communication to connect with new friends nearly 5,000 miles away.  At Cromwell, a <a href="http://www.gps.us.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Global Partnership School</a>, every class has at least one partner class somewhere. The classes use tools like Skype and <a href="http://www.edmodo.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Edmodo</a> (think an educational version of Facebook) to connect with their friends. In Flo Falatko's class on Thursday, students recited collaborative poems via webcam with partners at the <a href="http://www.ksbe.edu/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Kamehameha School </a>in Hawaii. Falatko said the project helps to teach students teamwork, creativity, safe and productive use of communication tools and got them a classroom of new friends five time zones away.
