Volunteers Sought for Towson Clean Up

Past projects for the bi-annual event have included trash cleanup, weeding, graffiti removal and paint touch up.

The Towson Clean Up is returning for its sixth year, and volunteers are needed.

"The Clean Up is held twice a year—April and October," wrote Greater Towson Council of Community Associations Vice President Mike Ertel in an email. "Projects include downtown Towson cleanup, trash cleanup, weeding, mulching, graffiti removal, paint touch up. We also do projects in different neighborhoods in Towson—like park cleanups, tree plantings, stream cleanups. Any neighborhood can participate and our group can help support their project with bulk trash pick-up, [Towson University] student help."

The next event is scheduled for April 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is jointly sponsored by the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations, Towson University and Towson University.

"...It is a community-wide effort," wrote Ertel, a West Towson resident.

To volunteer or register a neighborhood project for the Clean Up, call the chamber at (410) 825-1144 or email Ertel at mkertel@aol.com. Projects must have at least one supervisor from the neighborhood needing service.

"Our biggest disappointment with this program is the lack of volunteers from the residential and business community," he wrote.
