Walmart Funds Loch Raven Fireworks
The $10,000 donation helps keep the display going for 2012.

Loch Raven's popular display will go on, with help from an unlikely donor.
donated $10,000 to the Associates of Loch Raven Village, County Councilman David Marks announced Tuesday. The community association funds the annual fireworks display with donations from area residents, but said in November that for a necessary down payment on the $10,000 fireworks display.
Without the down payment, the community association could have lost the permit that has allowed them to launch the fireworks from the field at for the past several years. The fireworks show has been a tradition in Loch Raven for more than 20 years.

Sarkin said she was "astounded" when she first heard in December that Walmart would foot the bill for the display.
"What they said to me was that they wanted to give back to the community because we put so much into Walmart by going there all the time," she said Tuesday.

In an interview, Marks added that also donated $1,000 to help defray the cost of future fireworks.
"I think it's a wonderful for the community," he said. "These are very expensive events to host, more expensive than people think, and these are the only fireworks in the Towson area."
