BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County residents will find that many things are closed Monday as the country commemorates Presidents Day. This means that many town workers and students get to enjoy a longer weekend.
The holiday was established in 1885 to recognize the birthday of President George Washington, according to History.com. It became known as Presidents Day in 1971 when Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to create more three-day weekends for workers in the United States.
As a federal holiday, Presidents Day could affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Baltimore County.

Baltimore County Government Offices: County offices will be closed Monday.
Baltimore County Public Schools: BCPS schools and offices will be closed Monday.

Baltimore County Public Library: All BCPL locations will be closed Monday.
U.S. Postal Service: Post offices will be closed on Monday.
UPS, FedEx and Amazon: Business as usual.
Health Department: clinics will be closed.
CountyRide: Vans will not operate Monday.
Baltimore County Banks: Most, if not all, will be closed Monday.
Baltimore County Parking Meters: Must be fed on Presidents Day. Baltimore County Revenue Authority parking garages will be open as usual.
Trash and Recycling: Collected as usual. Drop-off centers will be open. See more information about drop-off locations and hours. Residents may also call the Bureau of Solid Waste Management at 410-887-2000. Collection schedules are also available on the new free BaltCoGo app.
Courts: Closed in observance of Presidents Day.
