Hundreds of girls lined up for their chance in the spotlight.
Hundreds of girls ... and their dolls ... lined up in Towson to hit the catwalk for a good cause.
The American Girl Fashion Show hosted a at on Saturday afternoon, and it appeared set to be the show's largest audition yet, according to organizers.
Girls ages 6 to 12 from all over the Baltimore area lined up on the mall's first floor. Many brought their own American Girl dolls with them; some even dressed their dolls in clothes that matched their own. About 180 girls of the more than 500 to audition over the past three weeks will be picked to take part in one of four shows at the Hippodrome in Baltimore on March 24 and 25.

And it's not all for show—proceeds for the fashion show benefit the University of Maryland Children's Hospital and the Towson-based Cool Kids Campaign. The groups expect to raise $100,000 through the fashion show.
"Part of what we're hoping to do with this is raise awareness for the two causes, because a lot of the people that are here, they're real excited about the American Girl aspect of it," said Sharon Perfetti, executive director and co-founder of the Cool Kids Campaign. "Their daughters are so devoted to it, but while they're here, we're educating them about what we do and therefore broadening our outreach."
