Black History Musical Revue βFreedom Songsβ at the Carroll Arts Center
National professional touring theatre company, Bright Star Touring Theatre, will present the musical revue βFreedom Songsβ at the Carroll Arts Center on Saturday, January 29 at 2pm. This production has been scheduled in place of the Arts Centerβs MLK Day production of βStruggle for Freedom,β which was canceled due to the inclement weather. All previously purchased tickets for βStruggle for Freedomβ will be honored at this new performance.
This musical revue provides an energetic and engaging approach to learning about Black History. From songs which carried the secret messages needed to navigate the Underground Railroad, to the powerful anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, to the Beale Street Blues, music has long been an integral part of American history which is celebrated in this production. Bright Starβs professional actor/singers take audiences on a musical tour through hundreds of years of history, sampling songs that spread across centuries and continents, and explaining the history behind these famous ballads, hymns and musical styles. This show is best appreciated by audiences in third grade through adult.
Each year, Bright Star Touring Theatre serves nearly 1,000 audiences in schools, theaters, libraries, museums and more across the country. They offer a wide variety of curriculum-based programs ranging from βThe Lady of Bullyburgβ to βHeroes of the Underground Railroad.β The company performs regularly at the National Theatre in Washington DC and has gained international support, accepting an invitation from the U.S. Embassy to visit Moscow, Russia with their programs. Bright Star is committed to providing professional theatre to audiences at an affordable and all-inclusive rate. Information about all their interactive shows, including production videos, photos, study guides and more is available online at www.brightstartheatre.com.
