Three Carroll County educators received awards for their work in implementing Education That is Multicultural in their schools at the 10th Annual ETM/ESOL Summer Leadership Institute, which was held in June at Winters Mill High School
Marilynn Buss and Marie Hawkins, teachers at Oklahoma Road Middle School, received the ETM Teacher of the Year Award. This award recognizes teachers for building relationships with all students, incorporating the principles of ETM in instruction and relationships, serving as a resource and role model for other teachers and staff, and demonstrating the school system’s core values, according to a CCPS news release.
Both Buss and Hawkins were nominated for the award by their school administrators. According to Patricia Levroney, Supervisor of Equity and Community Outreach, “Marilynn has been an ETM liaison for ten years and has brought about a lot of change at Oklahoma Road Middle School. Marie joined her about five years ago, and together they have developed a climate of respect and an appreciation of all cultures.”

“Mr. Roemer has endeared himself to the East Middle School community by personally visiting the homes of students, holding family forums, and engaging in community outreach,” Levroney said in a statement.
