How do you know the local hero?

She is my daughter.

What does the local hero do?

She is an attorney, a leader, a volunteer, a mother and a daughter.

Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?

Jennifer has spent 25 years in the public service sector representing abused and neglected children in Baltimore City. She also worked in the Legal Aid office for the city of Annapolis and served as a public defender for Baltimore County Family Court.

Her volunteer work has been ongoing since she first volunteered at soup kitchens in college. Jennifer served for twenty years as the volunteer adoption coordinator for MAS Rescue, placing hundreds of animals each year into loving homes.

Jennifer started Maryland WISE, a grassroots chapter of the national Indivisible organization, growing it from no members to over 1,000 members. The members are involved in everything from education to health to local politics. She and a friend also initiated the Good Neighbors Group in Anne Arundel County, an organization that provides families everything from winter coats to children's shoes to beds and furnishings for those without basic necessities.

Jennifer also is the leader of an organization dedicated to recognizing lynchings that took place in Maryland and educates the public about this history.

Jennifer has done all this and more while raising two exceptional children, fostering many many homeless animals and always being an incredible daughter and friend. She is a vegetarian which befits her compassionate nature and is always the first to offer help wherever needed. A terrific cook, gracious hostess, and gardener, she recently entered into private practice as a family law attorney in Westminster.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?

She is the very best humanity has to offer.

Thank you for all you do, Jennifer P. Haber!
