Woman Slammed Child, 7, On Asphalt Before Biting 3 Officers: Police

Authorities said witnesses put a child in their car for protection after a mom slammed the youth outside a Waldorf urgent care facility.

WALDORF, MD — A woman is facing multiple charges after police said she slammed a 7-year-old child against asphalt outside of an urgent care facility in Charles County, according to authorities.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrived at the facility shortly before 8 a.m. Monday after receiving multiple calls about a woman in the parking lot who had picked up the child over her head before slamming them down onto the asphalt.

According to authorities, witnesses ran to the child and put them in their car to keep them safe until deputies arrived.

When deputies attempted to arrest the woman, she became combative, authorities said. According to the sheriff's office, the woman bit three deputies as they attempted to de-escalate the situation.

Authorities said the woman eventually was subdued. She was taken to the hospital, where she was medically cleared, authorities said.

The child was also hospitalized with severe head trauma, authorities said.

The woman was not identified to protect the child, authorities said. According to the sheriff's office, she was charged with first-degree child abuse, and first- and second-degree assault.
