Patch talked to parents outside Wheaton Library to find out how much they were spending on supplies, lunchboxes, backpacks and clothes.

How much did Wheaton parents spend for back to school shopping? Here are some of the responses Patch received from patrons.
Public School
Atilio Aleman said he spent $70-$80 getting his son ready to attend Oakland Terrace Elementary School. Fatima Feay said she spent $50 on her son, who attends Glen Haven Elementary School--and that was accounting for the fact that he did not get a new backpack this year.

Private School
Marcia Headley's son attends private school, so most of the supplies are included with the tuition and fees, she said.

Home School
Esther Paull pays approximately $2,500 for the whole school year for her twin daughters, age 9, for materials from a home-schooling program. Her daughters have their own laptops, and they use a projector.
