Police Chase Jaywalker, Find Loaded Gun in Backpack

The jaywalker threw the backpack in a trash can during his flight from police.

When Montgomery County police stopped four jaywalkers on Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill Wednesday at 4:50 p.m., one of them took off running, according to a police statement.

Police chased after the man, later identified as Foday Abdulai Gassama, age 21, of the 4100 block of Garrett Park Road in Silver Spring.

When they caught up, Gassama was no longer carrying his red-and-black backpack, according to a police statement. Police retraced Gassama's steps and found the backpack stuffed in a trashcan on a driveway at a home in the 4000 block of Manor Park Court. Inside the backpack was a loaded handgun and ammunition.
