Hostage Situation In Wheaton Was Possible 'Swatting Call': Police

Police were called to a Wheaton home for a "possible domestic violence situation with a possible hostage," but the home was unoccupied.

(Updated at 11:55 a.m. Thursday): WHEATON, MD — Police were called to the scene of a possible hostage situation at a home in Wheaton, but discovered the home was unoccupied Thursday morning.

Montgomery County Police announced at 11:12 a.m. that they responded to a home in the 3900 block of Ferrara Dr. At about 11:51 a.m., police said they made entry into the residence and found it unoccupied.

"We are investigating this incident as a possible swatting call," police said.

Police first described the incident as a "possible domestic violence situation with a possible hostage."

Police activity is causing delays on eastbound Veirs Mill Rd/MD-586 from Randolph Road to Ferrara Avenue. Drivers are asked to avoid the area if they can.
