1 Dead, 4 Hurt In Crash That Closed Mass Pike

The Thursday morning crash involved a single vehicle carrying five people, according to state police.

STOCKBRIDGE, MA — One person died and four more were injured when an SUV crashed along the Mass Pike Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near Stockbridge. The crash forced state police to close the highway on the eastbound side. The westbound side of the highway also closed briefly for emergency vehicles, police said.

By noon, all lanes of the highway had reopened. The four injured victims were being treated at the Berkshire Medical Center.

Police did not immediately identify what caused the crash, and the incident was under investigation as of 1 p.m.
