Baby Formula Shortage 2022: How To Find Formula In MA

Gloucester health officials compiled a list of resources to help Massachusetts families find formula, from mutual aid groups to Gerber.

MASSACHUSETTS — The first overseas shipment of baby formula arrived in the U.S. on Sunday signaling better days ahead, but families across the country are still in crisis.

The Gloucester Health Department is here to help. Cape Ann Mass In Motion Grant Coordinator Jennifer Donnelly decided to compile a list of resources to help families in Massachusetts and beyond find and access the formulas they need.

  • Gerber’s My Baby Expert — chat virtually anytime with a certified nutrition or lactation consultant to find formulas similar to the one you use that may be more readily available.
  • Abbott Urgent Requests — healthcare providers may make an urgent request for metabolic/specialty formulas.
  • Enfamil Expert Support — chat virtually Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET and Saturdays 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. ET with someone in Enfamil's Family of Experts.
  • Mother’s Milk Bank Northeast — accredited by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America, MMBNE offers screened, pasteurized and tested milk to fragile babies across the Northeast. Call 617-527-6263 or email: info@milkbankne.org
  • Zipmilk — find breastfeeding support in your area.
  • Massachusetts WIC Program — information for WIC participants on the formula shortage and which formulas are readily available.
  • The Open Door — a local food pantry serving Gloucester and Ipswich. Call 978-283-6776 with questions.
  • FreeFormulaExchange.com — a national mutual aid website created by a Swampscott mom to connect those who need formula with those who have it.
  • The Formula Fairies of Greater Boston & Southern NH —a private mutual aid group on Facebook.
