Beloved MA Drive-In To Close After 60 Years In Business

The eatery will close in March.

TAUNTON, MA — An iconic restaurant in Massachusetts is set to close its doors next spring.

The Star Drive-In has announced that it will officially close its doors, according to a social media post. The restaurant's owner has stated that the restaurant, which opened in 1964, will shut down at the end of its lease in March 2026.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I need to address the rumors that are out there," wrote Erika Madden, The Star Drive-In's owner.

Madden wrote that when she signed the restaurant's five-year lease, the entity that bought the storage facility across the street also purchased the property that The Star Drive-In is on. The eatery is located at 205 Myricks St. in East Taunton.

Madden continued that she would not get into specifics, but many within city government and other departments know what has happened and "have not offered any help or assistance even after my repeated pleas for help."

Despite that, she wrote that the eatery had its best summer season yet.

"I’m very proud of everything I’ve been able to accomplish and give back over the last 10 years," she wrote. "I am closing on my terms. I will do my best to find my next best thing."
