Drivers Warned To Watch Out For Moose In MA During Breeding Season

The Massachusetts Environmental Police warned drivers to keep an eye out.

As autumn approaches, so does moose breeding season, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police warned drivers to keep an eye out when they're on the road.

"Moose are the largest land animal in Massachusetts, weighing up to 1,000 pounds and standing nearly 6 feet tall at the shoulder," the environmental police said in a Facebook post. "Their dark coloring and height make them difficult to spot in low light, and they can appear in areas not typically known for moose sightings."

  • Slow down and drive defensively in moose-prone areas
  • Watch for roadside signs and stay alert — even outside posted zones
  • Don’t overdrive your headlights — you should be able to stop within your visible range
