CHESTNUT HILL, MA — Former Boston College basketball player Brevin Galloway was not able to play for Clemson against his old team on Tuesday due to a freak groin injury suffered the previous week while weight training.

The injury, which Galloway described quite graphically on social media, did require surgery. But Galloway has been able to turn "the worst pain (he's) ever experienced" into some cash, signing an endorsement deal with an underwear company.

College athletes now are allowed to sign name, image and likeness (NIL) endorsement deals, and on Thursday, Denver-based Shinesty, a leading men's underwear company, announced it had signed a deal with Galloway ... or actually with Galloway's testicles, as the company announced in a press release.

"Galloway rose to viral fame after sustaining an injury he described as, 'my balls exploding,'" Shinesty wrote in the release. "He is recovering after undergoing surgery for what's technically called testicular torsion."

Shinety said it became interested in Galloway's story because Galloway said his injury may have resulted from him wearing loose boxers, the company said.

The company said such injuries could be prevented by wearing its Ball Hammock pouch underwear.

Shinesty announced that it was providing Galloway, a graduate student who played last season at Boston College, with enough Ball Hammock pouch underwear to last him throughout his college career. The company also gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and said it most likely would be enough to cover his deductible for surgery.

Galloway, a 6-foot-3 guard from Anderson, South Carolina, is in his sixth season of college basketball. He began his career at the College of Charleston, but transferred to BC in 2021. He averaged 8.3 points for the Eagles during the 2021-22 campaign.

Galloway transferred to Clemson ahead of this season, and he is averaging 10.6 points for the Tigers, who dropped to 18-5 overall, 10-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference after a 62-54 loss at Conte Forum on Tuesday.

Clemson has not announced when Galloway is scheduled to return to the court this season.
