First Night Snow Across MA: See Timing, How Much Will Fall In Latest Forecast

Those in Massachusetts who stay up until midnight to ring in 2026 could see flakes flying and slippery travel.

MASSACHUSETTS — Those who make it up until midnight to ring in 2026 are likely to see flakes flying at the time the ball drops as an arctic front moves through the region late in the evening and overnight.

The timing of the system could be tricky for those out and about to celebrate the new year, with snow arriving at about 10 p.m. in Worcester County and closer to midnight in Boston. Travel may become slippery overnight as up to 4 inches of snow accumulates on Cape Cod.

Most of the region will receive between 1 and 2 inches of snow from before midnight until about 2 a.m. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Cape Cod and the Islands where 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected and there could be some ocean enhancement.

The snow will accompany another blast of frigid air, with high temperatures only in the 20s on New Year's Day. Making it feel harsher will be a brisk west wind gusting to 36 mph.

The arctic front will also pave the way for a stretch of cold and calm days ahead with mostly sunny skies and highs near freezing Friday, Saturday and Sunday before the next chance of snow comes in Monday night into Tuesday.
