MASSACHUSETTS — Police are investigating a possible hate crime in Boston after a gay couple said they were physically and verbally attacked by a group of men this past weekend.

Meanwhile, the Republic Services’ sanitation workers strike that affected a dozen Greater Boston municipalities has finally come to an end after nearly three months.

Plus, a man and a young boy were injured after a shooting at a shopping mall in Leominster.

Gay Couple Says They Were Attacked By Group In Boston, Police Investigating Possible Hate Crime
One man reported being confronted by a group of men while he and his partner were walking to a convenience store in the vicinity of River Street. The situation escalated into a fight after the group made “anti-gay” remakrs at the couple. One of the victims was reportedly struck with a baseball bat and taken to the hospital. No arrests have been made yet.

North Shore Trash Strike Over: Officials, Teamsters Celebrate End To 82-Day Work Stoppage
According to Teamsters Local 25 Union President Thomas Mari, his workers finally reached an agreement on a “strong” five-year contract with their employer. Mari also thanked Gov. Maura Healey, who was among the many local and state officials who pressured Republic to return to the bargaining table amid an extended pause in negotiations in the summer.

Minor And Adult Wounded In Leominster Twin City Mall Shooting: Cops
Police responded to the Twin City Mall shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Merriam Avenue. Both victims were transported to Umass Memorial Hospital and are expected to survive. An arrest has yet to be made.

2 Injured After Fireworks Mishap At Polar Park
One of the two people was transported to the hospital after the mishap that took place during a WooSox game on Friday, Sept. 19. A rack of the fireworks reportedly fell over just before they were about to go off.

27 Puppy Mill Rescues To Arrive In Salem From Missouri To Find Forever Homes
The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and National Mill Dog Rescue worked together to facilitate the transport of the puppies from Missouri to Massachusetts. The dogs range in age from roughly four months to seven years old and include Dachshunds, Beagles, Husky mixes. Proposed bills in the Massachusetts State Legislature seek to end the so-called 'puppy-mill-to-pet-shop' pipeline by preventing pet stores from selling dogs, cats, and rabbits unless they partner with a shelter or rescue organization.

More Homes Are Selling In MA So Far This Year, But Prices Continue To Rise: Warren Group
The Warren Group’s most recent home sales report revealed that prices have increased 4.2% this year compared to 2024. Home sales overall have also increased, but it has not yet led to a dip in prices. Warren Group Associate Publisher and Media Relations Director Cassidy Norton said prices may go down before the year’s end due to interest and mortgage rates going down.
