
Hudson, MA - formerly of Saugus & Peabody - Mr. Leo J. Espindle, Jr., age 82, died peacefully on Monday, October 20th 2025 in Hudson, Massachusetts. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Elaine A. (Manoogian) Espindle and his parents Leo J. Sr. and Sarah “Libby” (Kane) Espindle.
Beloved father to Leo of Barrington, RI, Emily of Lincoln, RI, the late Donna of Mashpee, MA, Leanne of Acton, MA and Michael of Redhook, NY. Cherished father-in-law to Erika, Robert and Tim. Adored grandfather to Mark, Max, Anna, William, Leo, and Julian. Devoted brother of David and the late Frank and brother-in-law and uncle to many who loved him dearly for his easy-going manner and steadfast character.
Leo grew up in Peabody, MA where he graduated high school in 1960. As a child, he survived polio and became a gifted and decorated athlete. Leo played on three varsity teams for the Tanners. He was named captain in both baseball and football where he played alongside his brothers, with whom he was inducted into the Peabody Athletic Hall of Fame. Leo later played multiple sports in college, several years of high-level semi-pro baseball and soccer, and competitive tennis.

A true book lover, he spent 40 years as a Library Media Specialist at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, retiring in 2004. He obtained a B.S. and M.Ed at Salem State College, and a Masters in Library Science at Western Michigan State University. He also coached boys tennis at PVMHS for 23 years, and was selected coach of the year “at least twice” in his recollection, in addition to coaching numerous youth sports teams in Saugus, MA.

ARRANGEMENTS: A visiting hour will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a service in the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
