MA's First $50 Scratch Ticket With $25M Instant Win

The new "Billion Dollar Extravaganza" game boasts very high prizes, with equally high odds of winning.

MASSACHUSETTS — The Massachusetts State Lottery this week will begin selling its first $50 scratch ticket, which will offer the highest single prize available from any instant game: $25 million.

The new "Billion Dollar Extravaganza" ticket, first announced in December, will go on sale Feb. 7, with three of the first 30.2 million tickets to be printed offering the instant $25 million win. Although players will face high odds of winning the grand prize, the Lottery says there's a 1 in 4.10 chance of winning any prize.

There will also be five chances of winning $2 million and 15 chances to win $1 million. The lowest winning prize will be $100 — not the lowly $1 or $10 wins found on cheaper tickets.

"Our customers had been requesting this ticket for some time. After careful consideration, the Lottery has what we believe will provide them with the entirely new level of excitement they have been seeking," State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg said in a news release.

The Lottery expects to generate about $150 million in net profit from sales of the new ticket. That money goes back to all towns and cities in the state as unrestricted aid. In 2022, the Lottery generated about $1.1 billion in aid to cities and towns.
