MA School Goes Into Lockdown After Possible Gunshots Nearby

FITCHBURG, MA — A school in Fitchburg entered a shelter-in-place on Friday.

Goodrich Academy went into a shelter-in-place shortly after noon on Friday. Officers responded to reports of possible gunshots in the area of Harvard and Boutelle Streets, where they found shell casings, according to the Fitchburg Police Department.

The shelter-in-place ended at around 1 p.m., and students were dismissed. No injuries have been reported and the incident is currently under investigation, according to police.

At the time of the lockdown, the district shared a social media post stating, "The school is following its protocols and working closely with law enforcement. Families should not come to the school at this time as it may interfere with the ability of the school to respond. Messages will follow as soon as possible through phone, email, and social media."
