When Will Snow Stop? Sleet, Rain Means Storm Not Over Yet
Precipitation will linger in one form or another throughout most of the day, and the coming hours could present new problems.

BOSTON — Snow is giving way to sleet across some of Massachusetts as temperatures warm a bit from Friday morning's snowstorm.
About 7 inches of snow is being measured around north and west of Boston, with the final measurements certain to be higher — not to mention heavier. Sleet makes snow much denser and harder to shovel.
Friday's "storm after the warm" started overnight, less than 48 hours after record-high temperatures near 70 degrees on Wednesday.

With most of the snow having already fallen, the mostly low-impact storm lined up pretty well with forecasts. North and west of Boston where temperatures were coldest has between 6-8 inches, while south of the city which saw some more rain is between 3-5 inches. The highest snow total as of 10 a.m. was 7.2 inches in Holden, according to the National Weather Service.
Precipitation will linger in one form or another throughout most of the day. The National Weather Service said light snow is expected in the northern part of the state this afternoon, while a wintry mix in the southern part could turn back to light snow later in the day.

The storm spared the state of too much inconvenience. School was in session, power outages were well under 700 and there were not many serious traffic incidents reported.
But the coming hours could present new problems. The changeover to rain and sleet could freeze overnight as temperature plummet to the teens.
