MASSACHUSETTS — From upcoming layoffs at Starbucks to an iconic New England outdoors brand opening another location, it's been a busy week in Massachusetts business news.

MA Starbucks Locations Closing

Five of the 300 Starbucks locations in the Bay State are set to close. One store in Boston, three in Cambridge and one in Somerville will shutter.

This news came after the coffee giant announced it will focus more of its resources on a turnaround, CEO Brian Niccol wrote in a letter to employees on Thursday.

Iconic New England Outfitter To Open Another MA Store

L.L. Bean will open up its third Central Massachusetts location in Framingham. The Maine-based retailer will open in November at Fresh Market Plaza, located at 84 Worcester Rd.

Pickleball, Volleyball Sporting Club Opens In Central MA

Boston United, a club that offers Pickleball during the day and volleyball in the evenings and weekends, opened on Sept. 12 at 110 Andrew Ave in Wayland. The new location, which is the first solely dedicated to Boston United, offers opportunities for newcomers to the sport all the way up to the pros.

New 24/7 Emergency Room For Pets

An emergency room for pets has opened on the North Shore. VEG ER for Pets is located on Sylvan Street in Peabody. The ER is set to be open 24/7, including on holidays, and will provide veterinary medicine, surgeries, ultrasound, X-rays and other urgent care services.
